The diplomacy review

Magazine design

The Diplomacy Review is a magazine issied by the UCL Diplomacy Society, themed at international relations and foreign policy. It's writers are usually students, but its target audience is young diplomats, politicians and policiy makers. That is why we decided that the most important thing they needed is a design, which most importantly catches the eye of the people inspired by foreign-ness, hence the culturally significant and striking cover images.

covers

layout

The layout is mostly classic - heading, subheading, author, main text and a photo. Nevertheless, the aim was for the imagery to comprise about a quarter of every spread, thus allowing for a more interesting and indulging experiance.

fonts and text allignment

Abhaya Libre and Cormorant Garmond, combined with the classic book/academic paper allignment of the text aimed at showing the academic background and seriousness of the magazine. The Open Sans, however, was used to contrast with the serif fonts, thus creating an emphasis on the author, thus allowing for the individualistic ideals of the Diplomacy society to show up.
